1946
Doyle Was Founded
Edward Patrick Doyle, an experienced carpenter with entrepreneurial aspirations, began building residential homes in Glen Ellyn, IL. Between 1946 and 1959, Ed built over 200 homes in the Glen Ellyn and Wheaton area under the E.P. Doyle business name. Ed’s older son, also named Ed Doyle, joined the company briefly after returning from World War 2, before embarking on his own venture into construction.

1960
Bob Joined The Team
Bob Doyle, the youngest of Ed’s two sons and one of nine children, joined the family business, creating the company known as E.P. Doyle & Son. Bringing in a business degree and expanding Doyle’s portfolio to include commercial and industrial construction services, Bob succeeded his father as President within just nine years, in 1969.

1970
Bob Relocated Operations
Bob relocated the company’s operations to his family home in Glen Ellyn, where he ran the business alongside his wife, Judy, while raising their family. Bob’s exceptional work ethic drove him to spend his days on the jobsite as a carpenter and his evenings handling the books. In 1979, he expanded the business into a corporation.

1994
Tim Expands Services and Expertise
Bob’s son, Tim Doyle, who grew up immersed in the industry, joined the family business, after gaining experience as a project superintendent and later a project manager, delivering large-scale projects in downtown Chicago. His expertise broadened the company’s operations to include construction management and design-build services.

1998
Growth Spurs Office Expansion
E.P. Doyle & Son, Inc.’s sterling reputation led to continued growth, allowing the firm to move into its first non-residential office in Glen Ellyn in 1998. This marked the transition of the firm’s legal name to E.P. Doyle & Son, LLC, Tim’s move to Vice President and part owner, and the company simultaneously becoming informally known simply as “Doyle.” Four short years later, in 2002, Doyle relocated again, as a larger office space was needed to accommodate the firm’s employee growth.

2000
Building Strong Financial Foundations
Financial institutions were the backbone of Doyle's early days, with collaborations like Firstar, MidAmerica, Liberty Federal, & Hinsdale Federal Bank. In the early 2000s, as the industry evolved through mergers, Doyle reestablished key relationships, forming master service agreements with JP Morgan Chase, PNC, Wintrust Financial, and Community Bank. Over the past 25 years, Doyle has built and renovated over 80 financial institutions across Chicagoland, solidifying its strong presence in the sector.

2006
Breakthrough Into Industrial Sector
In 2006, Doyle embarked on its largest project to date and its first major breakthrough into the Industrial sector, building new facilities on the Chicago Electric Fish Barrier to protect the ecosystem of the Great Lakes while also supporting growth within the sport fishing industry. This project marked the first of eight projects with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and represented contracts of over $64 million within a 13-year period.

2007
Expanding Expertise in Healthcare
In 2007, Doyle broke into the medical industry with the DuPage Eye Surgery Center at the Wheaton Eye Clinic, a relationship that has led to multiple projects over the years. Since then, we've collaborated with notable healthcare clients such as Edward-Elmhurst Medical Group, Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, Rush Copley, and Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, including Central DuPage Hospital, Cadence Health, and Delnor Hospital, establishing a strong presence in the medical sector through long-term relationships.

2009
Relocation to Wheaton Office
Doyle purchased a new office building, successfully relocating its operations to Wheaton. This move not only provided a fresh space for the team, but also positioned the company to better serve its growing regional client base while facilitating steady workforce expansion.

2010
Tim Takes Leadership Role
Tim became sole owner and President of the company, just 11 years after forming a partnership with his father. A year into his presidency, he took the significant step of purchasing the business outright, solidifying his leadership and vision for its future.

2014
Moving On Up
Doyle expanded its Wheaton office by building out the remaining space in its two-story building in order to prepare for planned growth, enhance its capabilities, and allow for greater service delivery to clients while accommodating a still-increasing employee headcount.

2021
Celebrating 75 Years
E.P. Doyle & Son, LLC proudly celebrated 75 years in business in 2021, achieving a significant milestone in its rich history and commitment to excellence.

The fact is, almost everybody I’ve met has had nothing but positive things to say about my grandfather and father. I hope I’m doing the right things, and I hope my children will do the right things, and future generations will do the right things, because this is our legacy. We have a reputation to protect.
